Meeting with Croatian water and sewage specialists
28.02.2017

On the 24th of February 2017 Schwander Polska hosted a meeting of delegates of local government representatives from Croatia as well as specialists in the field of water and sewage management. The meeting was aimed at exchanging experience, good practice and information as well as enhancing specialist knowledge with regard to wastewater treatment plants based on ultramodern MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) technology.

The invitation was accepted by local authorities from Croatia, specialists engaged in water and sewage management, representatives of design and construction companies, and representatives of Polish and Croatian academic societies, including lecturers of Warsaw University of Technology and University of Zagreb.

During the meeting, guests had a chance to learn more about the innovative technology and layout of four wastewater treatment plants located within the territorial area of Chełmiec Municipality, namely: Wielogłowy, Chełmiec, Piątkowa and Mała Wieś. Projects of these wastewater treatment plants, part-financed by European Union, have been executed by Schwander Polska, with the application of exclusive solutions combining MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) technology with RTC N/DN (Real Time Control nitrification and de-nitrification) system. This unique combination enabled permanent operation of wastewater treatment plant without the need of permanent human supervision due to state-of-the-art automatic control system and advanced measurement devices.

After reference site visits, guests from Croatia gathered in a conference centre to meet with the representatives of strategic partners of Schwander Polska. Jacek Pyskło (Alfa Laval Polska) introduced the principles and advantages of innovative membrane modules manufactured by Alfa Laval, stressing mainly the compact design of the module, enhanced membrane resistance and implementation of unique solutions for significant reduction of energy consumption.

Dr inż. Ewa Witkowska, the specialist on membrane techniques and process optimisation (RTC) engineer (Hach Company), gave an insightful lecture on remotely-operated automatic control system and advanced measuring devices. The application of such solutions facilitates the optimisation of chemical consumption and reduction of personnel costs, which translates directly into the reduction of operational costs of wastewater treatment plant. Moreover, guests could learn more about the history, mission and philosophy of Schwander Polska, a company formed in 2004, which due to exclusive technological solutions developed over the past few years has worked its way to the position of undisputable leader in the field of wastewater treatment plants based on MBR technology.

The meeting ended with a discussion, aiming at exchanging experience, information and shared concerns about chances and challenges of wastewater treatment industry both in Poland and Croatia. The participants have agreed to engage in further cooperation with regard to the execution of wastewater treatment plants based on MBR technology.
