The Croatian market creates many opportunities for Polish companies of water supply and wastewater management sector. Newly founded Croatian limited liability company Schwander d.o.o., with its registered office in Ivanić Grad, constitutes the next step towards strengthening joint initiatives of Polish and Croatian companies in terms of implementation of MBR RTC N/DN
Why is wastewater management such an important issue in Croatia?
There are several reasons. First, the indicators of connection to water supply and wastewater network in Croatia are below the EU average. The EU legislation obliges Croatia to improve these indexes, which is why the emphasis is put on this sector. Moreover, service sector in Croatia has been dominated by the tourism industry, accounting for up to 20% of GDP. Annual tourist industry income is now estimated at a massive €6.61 billion. Much of this would not be possible if it had not been for Croatia's 1800 km of coastline. Numerous centres offering a vast selection of watersport activities, historic ports and picturesque beaches attract millions of tourists every year. No degree in either hydrology or environmental studies is required to realise that it is in almost every Croatian's interests to ensure that the Adriatic becomes as pollution free as it possibly can be.
MBR wastewater treatment plants - perfect solution for tourism
MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) technology is the best solution for tourist destinations since it enables to achieve the highest quality of treated wastewater. The results of MBR treatment are far better than the results of any technology on the market, which is why it is listed on EU BAT list (Best Available Technique). It may be implemented in national parks, residential areas, near hotel and tourist facilities with no adverse effect and no need to create any prohibited zones.
The cooperation with experienced Polish companies is beneficial for water and wastewater sector in Croatia
Croatia has applied for a substantial investment fund for the modernisation and development of water and wastewater infrastructure. However, due to numerous barriers, little experience in management of projects co-funded by the European Union in this sector as well as the lack of experienced specialists and complicated procedures, the cooperation with Polish companies, having tremendous experience in implementation of projects of this type, create better opportunities for the growth of both parties. In order to facilitate the cooperation on the Croatian market, Schwander Polska decided to set up a new limited liability company in Croatia.

The newly founded limited liability company Schwander d.o.o. has its registered office in Ivanic Grad, Krešimira IV 20 (around 40 km from Zagreb). The company is managed by two directors: Duška Žanić and Dobrivoj Bancaliski. The company has been founded in order to facilitate the implementation of MBR technology in Croatia in cooperation with local civil engineering companies, which will provide opportunities to activate the potential of Croatian companies, without giving the market to the foreign capital. Schwander d.o.o. formed a partnership with Infraterra d.o.o., Novatech Baas d.o.o. and Duplico d.o.o.
