The scientists from Cracow University of Technology will conduct research at Schwander Polska’s MBR wastewater treatment plants

At a time of growing global competition in the field of technology, it is extremely important to conduct the reliable scientific research that will enable the development of the enterprise by creating new, innovative products and technologies. What is more, in areas such as energy, health, food and water, it is necessary to exchange the knowledge between research institutions from all over the world to accelerate the scientific development and implementation of innovative solutions.
The research project will last 12 months
On the 13th of February 2020, Schwnader Polska signed a cooperation agreement with the Cracow University of Technology. The subject of the contract is: „Research on biocenosis and properties of activated sludge in membrane biological rectors (MBR) and their impact on municipal wastewater treatment processes”. The tests will be carried out at the wastewater treatment plant in Kunow (Swietokrzyskie Vovoideship).
The research and development works have been divided into the following stages:
Determination of the methodology and schedule for sampling of activated sludge and wastewater at the wastewater treatment plant in Kunow.
Aim – optimization and further reduction of costs
The research will constitute the basis for further tests in the future, aimed at creating proprietary standards for dimensioning of the MBR wastewater treatment plants, reduction of energy consumption and optimisation of the control and automation system in the biological reactors.
The scope of research was prepared after identification of potential areas of development for MBR technology, aiming at increasing the competitiveness of Schwander Polska’s proprietary techological solutions and reduction of the capital and operational costs for the end user.
The future – cooperation of international research centres
Today, science is becoming more and more opened up to the world. The goal is to remove obstacles to international cooperation between scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators, involvement in scientific diplomacy and managing the international research partnerships and scientific discoveries in order to face global challenges.
While being one of the party engaged in this unique dialogue, we have decided to initiate the cooperation with international technical universities. We are currently at the stage of preliminary talks with the representatives of the foreign scientific institutions regarding the cooperation in the field of comprehensive research and development of innovative solutions in wastewater treatment processes.

- Determination of the technological parameters of activated sludge from membrane biological reactors.
- Assessment of physio-chemical properties and microbiologic characteristics of activated sludge.
- Assessment of the impact of activated sludge quality on the efficiency of the technological processes.
- Processing the results and submitting final report.
