Chełmiec is the world leader in wastewater treatment. A visit of Scandinavian representatives

Today (the 5th of November 2016) Chełmiec Commune Office held a meeting of delegates of local government representatives from Finland, representatives of contracting parties and scientific societies from Sweden and Poland. The aim of the meeting was to provide information about the most innovative wastewater treatment plant technology used in Poland, which was unusual, since until now it was Polish people who learnt from Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian specialists.
The meeting of Scandinavian local government representatives with Head of Chełmiec Commune Office Bernard Stawiarski and his co-workers related to wastewater treatment plants constructed in Chełmiec, using most innovative technology of wastewater treatment in the world. The meeting was attended by Finnish local government representatives from Vitasaari and Vihti as well as representatives of Aquazone and Alfa Laval Nordic companies.
Guests who attended the meeting visited recently built wastewater treatment plants in Chełmiec, Wielogłowy, Mała Wieś and Piątkowa. Projects were part-financed by European Union.
Those four wastewater treatment plants are based on the most innovative MBR technology (Membrane Biological Reactor). In the nearest future another MBR wastewater treatment plants will be constructed (in Paszyn, Librantowa and Kunów).
The interesting fact is that wastewater treatment plant located in Wielogłowy is currently the biggest MBR wastewater treatment plant in Europe (although the bigger one is currently being built in Stockholm) – and simultaneously wastewater treatment plant in Piątkowa is the smallest one.
MBR technology is considered to be the Best Available Technology when it comes to wastewater treatment within the meaning of IPCC Directive (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control). MBR technology enables to fulfil the most restrictive standards imposed by European Union.
Additionally, each facility was equipped with the most up-to-date automatic control systems, which enable permanent operation of the wastewater treatment plant without the need of permanent human supervision. There are also other advantages, such as no emission of odours and quiet operation thanks to deodorization and noise-protection systems installed in the wastewater treatment plants.
-So far, our cooperation with the contractor – Schwander Polska® company headquartered in Nowy Sącz has been exemplary and since few years there have been no problematic issues – says Head of the Chełmiec Commune Office Bernard Stawiarski – We can also count on help with day-to-day management of our wastewater treatment plants.
